Our novel writing agreement

Coaching Purpose

The intention is to help you understand yourself as a writer and your process in order to get your book finished. Our coaching will provide you with Support, Validation, Accountability, Company and Guidance through the whole process of writing your book. I do not offer editorial advice.


Review

We will review our agreement after 6 sessions and have a ‘no fault’ ending if the relationship no longer suites either party or the coaching goals have been reached and there is no longer any requirement for coaching. Either of us may stop the coaching at any point, again, with a no fault approach. You are free to return to coaching at any point.

We both agree to the following -


Confidentiality

We will both maintain confidentiality regarding our discussions. This remains an ethical obligation as I am not bound by any legal requirement for confidentiality.


Feedback and commitment

We will both be honest and committed to our coaching activity. We will both be open to giving and receiving feedback and we will ensure we find time to do this at the end of each session. We will follow up on any action points and commitments made within our work prior to the next appointment.


Appointments

We will keep all appointments and ensure prompt rescheduling when cancellation is unavoidable. Any missed sessions or sessions cancelled at less than 48 hours’ notice will require payment. If you arrive late to a session I will do my best to accommodate you.


Payment

Sessions will be approximately 1 hour with 2 sessions per month I will invoice you monthly in advance at £300 per month and I’d be grateful for payment shortly afterwards. We can also work on WhattsAp and I will endeavour to get back to you within two days of any messages being left.


Venue

Our sessions will take place over Zoom, at my address here or at your place of work. You are strongly advised to ensure any venue is safe, quiet and private. For zoom sessions please ensure your connection and technology are working and your software is up to date. Please log in on a lap top or desktop machine not on a mobile phone. Travel time will be chargeable and I will discuss this with you beforehand.

Recording

Zoom sessions are automatically recorded solely for my own reflective learning and any work I do with my supervisor. Please let me know below if you would rather our sessions were not recorded. There will also be a short survey at the end of each zoom session and I’d be grateful if you could stay online to fill this out at the end of our sessions on Zoom.

My own experience –

 

I have 40 years’ experience working in large and small companies in the creative sector, both public and private. I have worked in film, television, theatre, interactive media and literature. I have worked as an investor, a commissioner, a funder, an executive, a producer, a manager, as crew and as a writer. I have started or founded 5 companies. I am a BAFTA winner and have an MBE for services to the creative industries.

 

My coaching qualification is the Institute of Leadership & Management Level 7 Certificate for Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors. My supervisors are Management Futures.

 

My coaching –

 

I help you think clearly about the issues you most want to address, and together, we find answers to the problems you most want to solve. I believe you learn most about yourself by doing your best thinking. I work in partnership with you to uncover and develop your resources. I have a challenging, focussed and supportive approach that drives change and builds understanding.

 

I work to six principles -

 

1.        You are resourceful. – We uncover and build your resources.

2.        We develop this resource - Without giving advice but With skilful and powerful questioning, significant challenge and support.

3.        We address the whole unique person – past, present and future, interior and exterior. The only thing off limits are the areas you do not want to explore.

4.        You, the client, own the agenda – We follow your agenda – there is no curriculum, it’s not teaching, and I am not here to cure you, it’s not therapy.

5.        We Work in partnership - as equals with total respect.

6.        We are Goal focussed - Focussing on sustainable change and action – closing the gap between potential and performance.

 

Coaching Process -

 

1.        At the outset of the programme and each session, we will define your goals, dilemmas and puzzles. What you want to improve, manage, decide, tackle, structure, learn, acquire, launch, or see. You will want to think about these prior to our session.

2.        There will be specific measurable actions to come out of each session and you’ll be expected to pay attention to these between sessions and follow up on any agreed actions.

3.        I will ask for feedback at the end of each session.

4.        I’m open to phone calls and emails/texts between sessions if you have an urgent need or thought.

5.        I may take brief notes during our sessions if you are happy with that.
